Perinatal osteopathy
What to expect
During the session, your osteopath will ask you some questions to understand a bit more about yourself, your general health and your pregnancy.
With a general observation and specific osteopathic tests, your therapist will be able to understand the origin of imbalance and will proceed, with your consent to an osteopathic treatment using different soft techniques suitable for pregnant women.
Main conditions
-
Back pain
-
Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) and Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
-
Difficulty breathing
-
Heartburn, constipation
During the pregnancy the body experiences important changes: hormonal and physical. However, sometimes the body has difficulty to adapt with these physiological modifications and therefore some tensions and pain can appear, most of the time around the pelvis & back.
Osteopathy and prevention
Preparation for a smooth delivery:
Working on your general balance and making sure your pelvis is in a correct position can help optimising the labour.
It is also a great opportunity to exchange with your therapist and talk about breathing, positions in labour, pelvic floor.
After the childbirth:
Get your body checked after the delivery is a great idea as it went through important distension and pressure: organs, pelvis, pelvic floor and chest were particularly demanding areas.
